Shipton, more formally Shipton-by-Beningbrough, sits around 6 miles north-west of York on the old Great North Road (now the A19), roughly a 15 to 20 minute drive from our base. Along with Tollerton and Crayke, Shipton falls under North Yorkshire Council rather than City of York Council, following the 2023 local government reorganisation.

We've built a wraparound kitchen and dining room extension for a customer at The Cottage in Shipton, one of a number of extension projects we've completed in and around the village. Shipton's older properties, some close to Beningbrough Hall and the wider historic estate, often call for careful brick and stone matching alongside the structural build itself. Our full range of extension types is available here: rear, side return, wraparound, single-storey, two-storey and kitchen, all part of our standard Home Extensions service.
As Shipton falls under North Yorkshire Council, applications are handled by that authority rather than City of York Council, though the underlying Permitted Development rules are the same nationally set limits: single-storey rear extensions up to 3 metres (semi-detached/terraced) or 4 metres (detached), or 6/8 metres under the Larger Home Extension scheme. Given Shipton's proximity to Beningbrough Hall and its historic parkland, some properties in the area may have additional heritage considerations, which we check on a case-by-case basis.
"Phil and his team have done a fantastic job building us a wraparound kitchen and dining room extension. Five star builder - would highly recommend." - Anne Bulmer, The Cottage, Shipton. We're a family-run team based in York, and we bring the same clear quotes and honest advice to Shipton as anywhere else we work. Fully insured, with regular updates throughout every build.
