Any outdoor electrical installation needs to be carried out properly and safely, and depending on the scope of work, notified under Part P of the building regulations. Low-voltage lighting systems, run from a mains-connected transformer, reduce some of the risk associated with outdoor electrical work, but the transformer connection and any mains-level wiring still need to be installed correctly by someone competent to do so. We coordinate this as part of the wider landscaping project rather than treating it as an afterthought once everything else is finished.
Garden lighting generally doesn't require planning permission, though security lighting that could cause light pollution or nuisance to neighbours is worth considering carefully in terms of positioning and brightness, particularly in more built-up areas.
